Ochazuke Green Tea And Rice Recipes
Embrace one of Japanese cuisine's most comforting quick dishes with this recipe for ochazuke green tea and rice. Originally a way to use up leftover rice, ochazuke is often prepared with pre-made sachets of flavourings that just require rice and water. Serve ochazuke for afternoon tea or supper.
Ingredients
- ochazuke instant sachet
- 100g cooked rice
- 150ml hot water
How To Prepare
- First thing you need to do is grab a suitable bowl for your ochazuke. Any small bowl will work great, but a traditional Japanese miso bowl is just the right size so use that if you have one.
- Prepare your rice as per the instructions, or refer to our Japanese rice cooking guide.
- If you are using leftover rice, pop it in the microwave for a minute or two to make sure it is warm.
- Once you have the rice in your bowl, empty the contents of one ochazuke sachet over the rice and switch your kettle on.
- Now fill up your bowl with 150ml of hot water and make sure that all the pieces of flavour are mixed well with the hot water.
- Your ochazuke is now ready so relax, enjoy the taste and be careful not to wake your partner when you sneak back into bed after your midnight snack.
